Throwback: Early Food & Event Storytelling—Godori Dinner Series (2015)

04/25/2026

In 2015, Magpie Brewing Co. and The Beastro in Hongdae collaborated on the Godori Dinner Series, a concept-driven dining event pairing craft beer with a curated multi-course menu. At a time when Seoul’s craft beer scene was still emerging, the series introduced a more experimental format, built around close collaboration between chefs and brewers. Each dinner followed a central theme, with pairings designed to align in flavor and structure, and in some cases, beers developed specifically for the menu.

Moktan Productions led video production for the project, capturing both the creative intent and the live atmosphere of the event. The goal was not only to document the dinner, but to translate the experience into a visual format that could extend beyond the space itself.

Early-Stage Production in a Live Environment

The shoot took place during an active dinner service, requiring a production approach that was both controlled and adaptable. Timing was dictated by the flow of the event, with moments unfolding in real time across multiple areas of the restaurant.

Moktan handled all aspects of the production, from planning through on-site execution and final delivery. Filming in a working restaurant environment meant operating within tight spaces, coordinating around staff and guests, and capturing key moments without disrupting the experience.

The result was a continuous, observational style of coverage that reflected the pace and energy of the evening.

Visual Approach to Food and Atmosphere

The visual direction focused on texture, detail, and atmosphere. Close-up shots highlighted the preparation and presentation of each dish, while wider compositions captured the interaction between guests, staff, and the space.

Lighting conditions played a significant role in shaping the final look. The low-light environment, combined with a crowded and fast-moving setting, required a flexible approach to exposure and composition. Rather than altering the space, the production worked with available light to preserve the natural mood of the event.

This approach resulted in imagery that felt intimate and grounded, emphasizing both the craft behind the food and the social experience of the dinner.

A Foundational Project

As one of Moktan’s earliest projects, the Godori Dinner Series represents a formative stage in the company’s development. It established an approach to filming food, drink, and live experiences that prioritizes clarity, efficiency, and strong visual storytelling.

The challenges of working in a live, uncontrolled environment helped shape a production style that continues to inform current work across a range of projects.
