Lonely Planet | Jeju Island

Lonely Planet included Jeju-do in its Best in Travel 2026 list, naming it one of 25 must-visit destinations for the year. The annual list is curated by Lonely Planet’s editorial team and highlights places around the world that offer timely, distinctive, or particularly compelling travel experiences in the coming year. Selections are based on a combination of cultural relevance, natural beauty, unique activities, and broader travel trends, and are accompanied by recommended experiences that define each destination.

Jeju-do was selected for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, extensive coastal scenery, and strong outdoor appeal. The island is home to Hallasan, South Korea’s highest peak, as well as the Jeju Olle Trail network, waterfalls, beaches, and lava tube formations. Its inclusion reflects a broader emphasis in the 2026 list on nature-driven travel and immersive regional experiences, positioning Jeju as a destination with growing international recognition beyond its established popularity within South Korea and East Asia.
