V&A Museum

Hanbok Documentaries

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is the world's largest museum of applied arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.27 million objects. It was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

In late 2022, Moktan Productions was commissioned to produce two documentaries on modern hanbok dress designers working in Korea. We handled the entire production from conception to the final stages of post and were honoured for the films to be featured as part of the V&A Museum’s HALLYU exhibition that runs from 2022 to mid-2023.

Young Jin Kim is one of the most well-known designers working with hanbok (traditional Korean dress) today. Kim has an intuitive and hybrid approach to design mixing global styles with local folk culture.

Korean designer Seonock Park established her contemporary fashion brand Guiroe in 2015. Park specialises in creating tailored suits for men that combine elements of traditional Korean dress (hanbok) and western fashion.

In this film, Park reveals the materials and techniques used to create the hanbok suit's unique design, her sources of inspiration, and her pride in working with traditional Korean fashion.
