Jeju Island on the Global Stage: Filming Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026
Jeju Island on the Global Stage: Filming Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026
6/2/26
Moktan Productions led pre-production and on-location filming for a travel feature highlighting Jeju-do’s inclusion in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026 list. Selected as one of 25 must-visit destinations worldwide, Jeju was recognized for its volcanic landscapes, coastal scenery, and strong appeal for nature-driven travel.
The project focused on translating this recognition into a cohesive visual narrative, designed for digital platforms while capturing the scale, diversity, and atmosphere of the island.
Showcasing Jeju’s Key Locations
Filming took place across a range of locations that define Jeju’s landscape, including Seongsan Ilchulbong, Gimnyeong Beach, Jeolmul Natural Forest, and Hallasan National Park. Each site contributed a distinct visual identity, from coastal formations and open shorelines to dense forest environments and elevated mountain terrain.
By combining these locations within a single narrative, the film presents Jeju as a destination with both variety and continuity, reflecting its broad appeal to international travelers.
Guided Exploration Through Hosting
Hosted by Tiffany Needham, the film follows a structured yet natural progression through the island. Her presence provides continuity across locations, shaping the project into an exploratory journey rather than a sequence of isolated scenes.
This approach allows the audience to engage with Jeju in a more immersive way, aligning with contemporary travel content that emphasizes experience and movement.
Visual Approach and Direction
The production focused on capturing Jeju’s landscapes with clarity and consistency, using a visual approach that emphasizes composition, natural light, and spatial flow. Wide environmental shots establish scale, while more controlled framing highlights texture and detail within each setting.
The result is a balanced visual language that presents both the grandeur of the island and the nuances of its individual environments.
Capturing Environment and Atmosphere
A central objective of the film was to convey not only the physical features of Jeju, but also its atmosphere. The interplay between coastline, forest, and mountain landscapes creates a sense of depth that defines the island’s identity.
The film reflects this by maintaining a steady rhythm and progression, allowing each location to contribute to an overall sense of place rather than functioning as standalone highlights.
On-Location Production and Execution
Moktan managed all aspects of pre-production and filming, ensuring efficient coordination across multiple locations. The project required a flexible approach to on-site execution, adapting to changing environments and conditions while maintaining visual consistency.
This allowed the team to capture a wide range of content within a cohesive framework, supporting both narrative clarity and production efficiency.
