Capturing Craft and Experience: Louis Vuitton’s “Memories of Trunks” Pop-Up in Seoul

6/1/26

Moktan Productions partnered with Propaganda Studios to produce an event film for Louis Vuitton’s “Memories of Trunks” pop-up, held in May 2024 at Louis Vuitton East Dosan in Gangnam, Seoul. Developed as a limited-time immersive installation, the pop-up explored the house’s origins in trunk-making through a series of heritage-driven displays and spatial design elements rooted in travel and craftsmanship.

The project focused on translating this physical experience into a cohesive visual narrative, designed for digital platforms while preserving the atmosphere and intent of the installation.

Documenting the Full Lifecycle of the Event

Moktan’s production covered the entire lifecycle of the pop-up, beginning with early-stage set-up and construction through to the fully realized visitor experience. Capturing this progression was key to conveying both the scale of the installation and the level of detail involved in bringing it to life.

From structural build-out to final styling, the film reflects how the space evolved into a complete environment, aligning with Louis Vuitton’s emphasis on craftsmanship and presentation.

Visual Approach and Techniques

The film combines multiple shooting techniques to build a layered and dynamic perspective of the event. Timelapse sequences were used to illustrate the transformation of the space and the flow of activity over time, while smooth gimbal movement created a continuous, immersive walkthrough of the installation.

Close-up detail shots focused on materials, textures, and design elements, highlighting the craftsmanship behind both the trunks and the broader exhibition. This combination of movement and detail allowed the film to balance scale with precision.

Capturing Space, Atmosphere, and Design

A central objective of the production was to capture not only the physical layout of the pop-up, but also its atmosphere. The installation brought together fashion pieces, trunk displays, and architectural elements into a cohesive environment that reflects Louis Vuitton’s legacy.

The film emphasizes this interplay between object and space, presenting the installation as both a design experience and a brand narrative. The result is a visual piece that conveys a sense of luxury while remaining dynamic and engaging.

On-Set Production and Execution

Moktan handled all on-set video production, focusing on principal photography and working in coordination with Propaganda Studios to support the overall creative direction. The production required efficient on-location execution, particularly in capturing different phases of the event within a limited timeframe.

By maintaining a flexible and responsive approach on set, the team was able to document both controlled and live moments, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the installation.
